An Innovative Approach to Engagement
Engaged learning is the best kind of learning! That’s why it’s a cornerstone of everything Breakout EDU does.
Our newest type of game, Breakout+, is modeled after the point-and-click games students already know and love. We’ve borrowed elements from this genre of gaming to create innovative digital environments for students that are full of surprises. Students move through the adventure by exploring, discovering, learning, and solving puzzles. These activities transform students into explorers while thrusting them into the unknown on a mission to uncover mysteries requiring them to solve complex, yet academically appropriate, problems.
The inaugural game in the Breakout+ series is "Escape the Perplexing Pyramid." This inquisitive journey asks students to draw upon a wide range of interdisciplinary knowledge and skills to conquer the challenges presented. Students are asked to demonstrate an understanding of place value, telling time, calculating the volume of a pyramid, illustrating reading comprehension, and even diving into scientific concepts like buoyancy! This adventure is a true test of academic prowess.
Immediately upon beginning a Breakout+ game, students are immersed in other worlds complete with rich storytelling, dynamic sound effects, and challenges around every corner. Students must complete each challenge (don’t worry - they get unlimited attempts!) to move forward in the game. Each challenge is aligned to an academic concept - and challenges span disciplines and range from grades 2-8. Games can be completed either independently as self-guided challenges or done collaboratively in small groups.
All a teacher needs to do is assign the game to students in their Breakout EDU classroom making games automatically available for learners. While students are enthralled in these adventures, teachers can take a moment to catch up or jump in with students and participate in the game!
